2014 Flower of the Year

The dahlia is referred to as the “Queen of the Autumn Garden.” It has a far reach: it is the official flower of San Francisco, a Mexican official emblem, and it is considered to be a sign of good taste in Japan. It Symbolizes hope for an everlasting union between two people, and so dahlia flowers are presented to couples at engagement parties and weddings. Since these flowers bloom in white and a variety of showy hues; they are given as an anniversary gift in celebration of 14 years of marriage. I was surprised to learn that this was the flower of this year. I honestly had never heard of this flower until I started working in the wedding industry. It has such a deep meaning behind it and I love that it symbolizes such a strong bond between people, that it is given on the anniversary of 14 years of marriage.
